LABOUR AND SOCIAL RELATIONS IN ISLAMIC COUNTRIES
Abstract
Labour and social relations constitute a central pillar of economic development, particularly in countries where institutional frameworks are closely intertwined with ethical, legal, and social norms. Islamic countries represent a diverse group of economies in which labour markets, employment relations, and social protection mechanisms are shaped by both modern economic structures and Islamic socio-economic principles. This article aims to examine labour and social relations in Islamic countries from an economic perspective, focusing on labour market institutions, employment structures, income distribution, and social welfare mechanisms. The study employs a qualitative economic analysis supported by comparative institutional assessment and descriptive evaluation of labour market indicators across selected Islamic countries. The methodological approach combines institutional economics with labour market theory to assess how social norms, regulatory frameworks, and state involvement influence employment outcomes, productivity, and social stability. Secondary data from international labour and economic reports are used to support the analytical framework. The findings suggest that Islamic countries demonstrate heterogeneous labour market structures, yet share common features such as a strong emphasis on social solidarity, state-led welfare mechanisms, and regulated labour relations. These characteristics contribute to social cohesion but may also generate structural rigidities affecting labour mobility and efficiency. The study highlights the importance of balanced labour market reforms that preserve social protection while enhancing economic competitiveness. The article concludes that strengthening labour and social relations through economically sound institutional reforms can support sustainable development in Islamic countries. Policymakers should prioritize inclusive labour policies, effective social protection systems, and productivity-enhancing reforms to ensure long-term economic and social stability.
