CarbonSilicon Hybrid Cellular Automaton: Diversity-Based Convergence and an Attractor at Ω = 1
Abstract
We introduce a two-species cellular automaton (CA) with a hybrid type emerging at boundaries: carbon-like (C) cells reproduce sexually and consume energy; silicon-like (S) cells clone asexually and update by local logic; hybrid (H) cells appear at empty sites adjacent to both C and S. We dene a continuous convergence metric ω(t) = αD(t)+β(1−C(t)), where D(t) is the fraction of occupied cells whose neighbourhood contains both C and S, and C(t) is the step truncation ratio. Setting Ω = limt→∞ ω(t), we ask whether the system exhibits an attractor at Ω = 1. Over 1 000 random initial conditions (20×20 grid, ll ratios in [0.1,0.5], 50 steps), 64.4% of runs reached ω≥0.99; 55.2% within 6 steps; median convergence step 2. Pure-C or pure- S controls do not reach high ω. We conclude that under the mixed rule a large fraction of random initial conditions converge to Ω ≈1 in few steps, and the formulation is reproducible and narrative-decouplable.
