Abstract

Experimental and theoretical evidence are presented supporting the 2004 hypothesis that LENR can occur between two identical, closely packed atoms. Several nucleons from the nucleus of one atom are transferred to the nucleus of another atom, provided that the resulting nuclei are stable and the law of conservation of energy is satisfied. This situation requires an explanation in accordance with existing concepts of the structure of atoms and nuclei. How can nucleons from one nucleus end up in another, having traveled a distance four orders of magnitude greater than the size of the nuclei? How does nature determine how many protons and neutrons should be moved from one nucleus to another?
