Abstract

GBIF bat and rodent occurrence files for replicating analyses from "Biodiversity databases as underutilized resources for pathogen discovery: a quantitative synthesis of bat and rodent tissue collections in natural history museums" (https://doi.org/10.1101/2025.11.28.691153). Datasets were downloaded from GBIF and are available here in their entirety: GBIF.org (14 July 2025) GBIF Occurrence Download https://doi.org/10.15468/dl.s8tqadGBIF.org (13 July 2025) GBIF Occurrence Download https://doi.org/10.15468/dl.7j3bhm The aggregated and filtered tissue dataset used in our analyses is available here as "TissueDataset_10.20.25.csv". Note that the data downloaded from GBIF has previously been modified by GBIF (e.g., taxonomic reclassification). To explore the utility of databases like GBIF for pathogen research, our study uses this GBIF-mediated data rather than the raw data submitted by institutions to GBIF.
