Abstract

Sequential pattern mining represents one of the most intellectually compelling challenges in data mining: discovering meaningful patterns hidden within the temporal dimension of data. This chapter explores the evolution, algorithms, applications, and research gaps in sequential pattern mining, from foundational sequence discovery algorithms (GSP, SPADE, PrefixSpan) to modern time-series analysis and periodic pattern detection.
