Informational Universe Implications for SETI Targeting
Abstract
We present a phenomenological extension of the Informational Universe (IU) framework to predict the density and detectability of technological civilizations. The model incorporates halo mass functions, redshift-dependent informational damping, metallicity evolution, and emergence probability, yielding a ~15–35% enhancement in civilization density relative to standard ΛCDM cosmology at z ≈ 0.5–1.2. Optimal SETI targets are halos of 10¹¹–10¹² M⊙, preferentially in filamentary environments. A two-dimensional parameter scan confirms robustness against variations in damping strength (ε_eff = 0.10–0.20) and emergence scaling (β = 0.5–2.0). The predicted enhancement is statistically detectable (>3σ) in surveys covering ≳10⁴ galaxies within this mass-redshift window, placing it within reach of next-generation wide-field technosignature searches. The approach remains fully compatible with conventional structure formation while exploring the potential role of informational degrees of freedom in cosmic complexity.
