Large Scale Handedness Asymmetry of Spiral Galaxies as a Test of Vacuum Residual Parity Breaking
Abstract
This repository/paper investigates reported large-scale asymmetries in the handedness of spiral galaxies (clockwise vs counterclockwise) as a stringent, parity-sensitive test of statistical isotropy. Because handedness is extracted from imaging data and is vulnerable to subtle pipeline artifacts (orientation conventions, flips/rotations, interpolation, selection thresholds, and field-dependent systematics), the work is framed as a bias-audited inference problem, not as an “anomaly claim.” The core contribution is an end-to-end methodology that defines what it means for a handedness signal to be cosmologically admissible. What this work provides A fully explicit image-plane convention and label definition. Independent labeling routes (automated and/or external/human) with a transparent abstention policy for ambiguous morphologies. A strict suite of mandatory symmetry and null tests: Mirror-flip parity correctness Rotation neutrality Field-jackknife stability Selection robustness under cut variations Control-sample nulls (non-spirals, scrambles, synthetic injections when available) A minimal statistical summary of any surviving component using a monopole + dipole model on the sphere, with significance calibrated through footprint- and field-respecting null distributions, including the axis-scan look-elsewhere effect by construction. A reviewer-facing admissibility checklist intended to make multi-survey replication the decisive criterion. Interpretation stance The inference output is intentionally mechanism-agnostic: it yields either a conservative null constraint on any parity-odd anisotropic component accessible to handedness measurements, or (if non-null) a compact, falsifiable sky pattern specified by a dipole axis and amplitude. The presence of a dipole component is not treated as evidence for a unique physical mechanism; replication across independent pipelines and independent surveys is required before stronger claims are considered. How to reproduce (high level) Generate standardized cutouts with a fixed orientation convention (e.g., North up, East left). Run at least one labeling pipeline with a documented abstention policy. Execute the mandatory transformation tests (mirror flip, rotations), control-sample nulls, and robustness scans. Fit the monopole+dipole model and compute significance using footprint/field-preserving permutations. Validate stability under field jackknife and threshold variations.
