Abstract

Felix defines a temporal fact model in which stored data is immutable and state is derived from history. The system stores atomic facts representing assertions about records at specific timestamps. Current state is determined by selecting the most recent fact per field. All values are canonicalized prior to identity derivation. Canonicalization ensures that semantically equivalent representations produce identical value identities. Felix separates: Immutable historical facts Canonical value identity Derived current state The purpose of this separation is to guarantee deterministic reconstruction, semantic equality stability, and protection against corruption from out-of-order ingestion. Felix is appropriate for systems where: Historical correctness matters Value repetition is high Out-of-order ingestion may occur Deterministic reconstruction is required
