Abstract

This work is the first volume of a comprehensive four-part series dedicated to the nature of ignorance. Originally written in Persian as "درآمدی بر چیستی نادانی", this document presents the English translation of the Preface and Part One. The book addresses ignorance not merely as a simple absence of awareness, but as a multi-layered, organized, and active force that profoundly affects individual and social life. Key conceptual highlights in Volume One include: * Theoretical and Practical Inquiry: An analysis of ignorance as both a philosophical "issue" (tracing back to Socrates) and a practical "problem" with catastrophic consequences in areas like public health and politics . * Artificial Intelligence and Modernity: A critical discussion on the "software of ignorance" and cognitive biases, exploring how human irrationality might infect and be amplified by silicon-based intelligences . * Ancient Mesopotamian Mythology: A deep journey into the myths of Sumer, Babylon, and Elam to discover how early civilizations conceived of ignorance through figures like Enki (the god of secrets), Gilgamesh (the hero's journey), Tiamat (primordial chaos), and Inanna . * Symbolic Analysis: Examination of ancient symbols of structural ignorance, including the Tablets of Destiny, the Anzû Bird, and the Huluppu Tree . The author argues that addressing the nature of ignorance is an imperative for humanity in the 21st century to understand our cognitive limitations and face the unknown .
