Building Acoustics 01: Finite Element Model of a Building Acoustics Test Facility to Predict the Sound Transmission Loss Based on DIN EN ISO 10140
Abstract
This building acoustics test facility benchmark provides the data and scripts to 1. mesh a building acoustics test facility finite element model based on DIN EN ISO 10140 using a domain- and frequency-specific discretisation strategy2. compute the sound transmission loss of a single-leaf (SLW) and double-leaf wall with and without insulation (DLWI/DLWnI). Overview SLW (folder) contains *.hdf5 files with mesh information and the finite element solutions of the SLW test specimen DLWnI (folder) contains *.hdf5 files with mesh information and the finite element solutions of the DLWnI test specimen DLWI (folder) contains *.hdf5 files with mesh information and the finite element solutions of the DLWI test specimen BATF_DLW_Script.py Python script to create *.med files of the DLWnI and DLWI test specimen BATF_SLW_Script.py Python script to create *.med files of the SLW test specimen cFemInterpolation.py class for interpolating the sound pressure on the finite element mesh cFileHdf5.py class for reading and writing *.hdf5 files cHex27.py class for computing quadratic Lagrangian shape functions and their derivatives (hexadron fluid element with 27 nodes) computeSoundTransmissionLoss.py Python script for computing the sound transmission loss (uses all classes above) README.txt *.txt file that contains the description Geometry and Mesh CreationThe scripts "BATF_SLW_Script.py" and "BATF_DLW_Script.py" create the geometry and finite element meshes with SALOME. Therefore, run \W64\Python\python.exe \salome -t -w1 \BATF_DLW_Script.pyor\W64\Python\python.exe \salome -t -w1 \BATF_SLW_Script.pyin the terminal (Note: "BATF_DLW_Script.py" computes by default DLWnI, changes are required inside the script to compute DLWI).The respective *.med files containing the mesh data will be stored in different subfolders with respect to the maximum considered frequency (300Hz, 500Hz, 650Hz, 715Hz):- ...\SLW\PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_300Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_SLW, ... - ...\DLWnI\PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_300Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_noInsulation, ...- ...\DLWI\PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_300Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_Insulation,... Finite Element SolutionsThe subfolders "PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_" in the main folders "DLWI", "DLWnI" and "SLW" contain two files "PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_.hdf5" and "eGenOutput_PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_.hdf5", where specifies the highest resolved frequency (300Hz, 500Hz,...), number of nodes per wavelength (13nodes), domain-specific discretisation (nc), material of the leafs (Plasterboard), and if insulation is applied or not (Insulation/noInsulation); yielding the following models: PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_300Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_Insulation PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_300Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_noInsulation PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_300Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_SLW PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_500Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_Insulation PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_500Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_noInsulation PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_500Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_SLW PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_650Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_Insulation PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_650Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_noInsulation PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_650Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_SLW PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_715Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_Insulation PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_715Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_noInsulation PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_715Hz_13nodes_nc_Plasterboard_SLW "PlShell9_Fluid27_BATF_.hdf5" comprise the finite element data (nodes, node sets, elements, materials, ...) and "eGenOutput_PlShell9_Fluid27_WTF_.hdf5" solution data as well as the node to degree of freedom (dof) map. Computation of the Sound Transmission LossThe script "computeSoundTransmissionLoss.py" computes the sound transmission loss based on the model data in the *.hdf5 files provided for the single- and double-leaf walls with and without insulation in the respective folders "DLWI", "DLWnI" and "SLW". The classes in "cFemInterpolation.py", "cHex27.py" and "cFileHdf5.py" are called by "computeSoundTransmissionLoss.py". The first two classes allow to interpolate the sound pressure at the microphone positions in the source and receiving room based on the finite element solutions while the third class provides basic methods two read and write *.hdf5 files. If you want to compute the sound transmission loss profiles of the respective profiles, unzip the respective folder "DLWI.zip", "DLWnI.zip" and/or "SLW.zip", include the respecitive model names in "computeSoundTransmissionLoss.py", run the script python computeSoundTransmissionLoss.py (only the sound transmission loss of DLWnI is computed by default; include the remaining model names that are added as comments at the respective positions to compute the sound transmission loss of the remaining test specimens).
