Camino Dreaming: Songs from the Way
Abstract
Camino Dreaming is an original collection of ethnographic songs written along the Camino Francés during a multi-year fieldwork project on mindful walking, slow ethnography, and the cultural politics of pilgrimage in contemporary Spain. Each song emerges from embodied, place-based research: conversations in albergues, shared walking rhythms, ethnographic encounters with pilgrims, and sensory observations gathered across Galicia, León, Navarra, La Rioja, and Castilla y León. The project explores how songwriting functions simultaneously as: a research method a site of collaboration a form of cultural exchange a public-facing ethnographic outcome The album was written between 2023–2026 in Spain and Finland, shaped by daily walking, communal listening, and multilingual exchanges along the route. Songs were refined in retreats (Songs of Santiago, Songs from the Jemez) and recorded in collaboration with Nordic and international musicians.
