Abstract

This paper examines two extreme environments through ACAT's environmental compression framework: the prison and the nomadic lifestyle. Prison eliminates every environmental condition that ACAT identifies as necessary for genius-level compression: input diversity is minimal, cross-domain exposure is absent, feedback systems are closed, and intrinsic motivation is systematically suppressed. It is the anti-genius factory—an environment architecturally designed (unintentionally) to prevent compression development. The nomadic lifestyle provides the opposite: constant environmental change forces continuous recompression, survival across diverse conditions demands cross-domain gist extraction, and the open system of the physical world delivers immediate, unambiguous feedback. The comparison illuminates ACAT's environmental design principles and produces immediate implications for criminal justice, education, and workspace architecture.
