Abstract

Evidence Synthesis Tools is a curated directory of strictly open-source, non-proprietary software supporting the complete evidence synthesis workflow. Evidence synthesis is the systematic process of identifying, evaluating, and integrating all available evidence relevant to a research question to inform scientific conclusions, policy, and practice. The directory covers major stages including search strategy development, citation retrieval, deduplication, AI-assisted screening, data extraction, risk-of-bias assessment, visualization, statistical synthesis, evidence mapping, bibliometrics, qualitative synthesis, and research workflow automation. Only tools with publicly available source code and recognized open-source licenses are included. Proprietary, closed-source, freemium, or institution-restricted software is strictly excluded. Version 1.0 includes 140 verified open-source tools compiled up to 2026 to support transparency, reproducibility, Open Science, and long-term research software sustainability.
