Darkness Therapy Facilitation Certification Program Comprehensive Instructional Design Blueprint
Abstract
The Darkness Therapy Institute is implementing a comprehensive strategy to integrate a distance learning approach into darkness therapy training by designing a virtual darkness therapy facilitation certification program. This online international 12-week program trains mental healthcare professionals on how to facilitate therapeutic darkness immersion experiences (darkness therapy) for clients. This program strategy includes the choices for the platform and authoring tools along with rationale for their inclusion, the course distance learning modality with a focus on social learning, and the course learning objectives mapped to course content and learner interactions. Additionally, an outline of accessibility considerations is provided in this strategy document, and the application of the strategy is illustrated by using examples of module activities connected to their respective learning objectives and digital tools. This blueprint also includes a technology plan and a futurefocused vision with a continuous improvement model applying the Six Sigma process. This program uses criteria-referenced competency-based assessments whilst also establishing the competency benchmark for the emerging field of darkness therapy.
