Post-eruptive deformation and faulting of the 2021 Tajogaite craters (La Palma): Data from time lapse cameras, drones and analogue modelling
Abstract
Young scoria cones fed by dike channels may undergo rapid and substantial post-eruptive morphological modification, yet the structural controls and mechanisms governing topographic degradation remain poorly constrained. This knowledge gap limits the interpretation of volcanic landforms, faulting, and deposits and complicates reconstruction of scoria cone evolution. The 2021 Tajogaite eruption on La Palma (Canary Islands) produced a cratered edifice approximately 180 m high by December 2021, providing a unique opportunity to document post-eruptive morphological change at high temporal resolution. Here we present a multi-temporal dataset combining time-lapse camera imagery (CAM3, CAM 5, CAM6), drone surveys (UAV digital elevation models and orthomosaics) to quantify the late- and post-eruptive structural and geomorphic evolution of the dike-fed crater row, as well as analogue models (Xperiments).
