Abstract

The digital divide refers to disparities in access to Information and Communication technologies, internet, and related skills among different populations. In India, despite rapid expansion of digital infrastructure in recent years, a significant portion of the population especially rural, socio-economically backward, and marginalized peoples remain excluded from significant digital access. This exclusion increases existing social inequalities by limiting access to education, healthcare, job opportunities, e-governance, e-commerce, financial services, and social participation. Gaps in infrastructure, affordability, digital literacy, and socio-cultural barriers contribute to persistent digital inequalities. This paper analyzes the factors of digital divide and its impact on social inequality and possible solution to overcome barriers in excess of digital devices. This research is based on secondary data collected from academic journals, government reports, national surveys, development organization publications, and research studies.
