Prometheus: Fire, Knowledge, and the Price of Consciousness
Abstract
Prometheus is perhaps the most culturally “dangerous” myth of antiquity. It is not merely about fire. It is about knowledge. It is about the transcendence of dependence. It is about the moment when the human being stops waiting and begins creating. Prometheus steals fire from the gods and gives it to humans. The act is not innocent. It is not simply generosity. It is a rupture with authority. It is a transfer of power. Fire signifies technology, civilization, thought, consciousness, autonomy. With fire, the human being ceases to be a passive recipient of fate. But knowledge has a price.
