Abstract

The banking industry in India has undergone rapid transformation in recent years, driven by technological innovation, regulatory reforms, and evolving customer expectations. Traditionally dominated by physical branches and manual processes, the sector is now embracing digital solutions that are reshaping how financial services are delivered and consumed. A key force behind this shift is the widespread adoption of digital payments and mobile banking platforms, especially the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which has revolutionised real-time transactions and made digital payments a central part of everyday financial life for millions of Indians. In the first half of 2025, digital transactions accounted for nearly the entire volume of retail transactions, highlighting the country’s move toward cash-less economy.
