WindMapper(1.1.1.9/LZP/2/25/263): High-Resolution Wind Resource Maps for Latvia: Bridging Academic Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) Precision to the Industry Solutions
Abstract
This project develops an advanced wind resource assessment framework for Latvia by integrating Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) precision with operational-scale Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) modeling. Using a novel nested domain configuration (9 km → 333 m), we combine high-resolution initialization (3-hour LES spin-up) with multi-year mesoscale simulations (2024–2026) to overcome the "cold start" limitations of conventional approaches. The implementation features: • Baltic-optimized physics: MYNN PBL for marine conditions, Thompson aerosol-aware microphysics • Assimilation of High-resolution SST data from CMEMS • Automated workflows: Python/BASH scripts for end-to-end processing (WPS → WRF → NetCDF outputs) • Computational efficiency:
