Abstract

Abstract Mangrove forests are increasingly recognized as one of the most carbon-rich ecosystems on Earth, playing a crucial role in climate change mitigation. This nano review compares carbon stocks in mangrove ecosystems with those in other major forest types, including tropical rainforests, temperate forests, boreal forests, and peat swamp forests. Emphasis is placed on total ecosystem carbon, including aboveground biomass, belowground biomass, and soil carbon pools. Keywords: Mangrove forests; mangrove plant species; biodiversity inventory; true mangroves and associates; species composition; Cambodia; coastal ecosystems; conservation priorities; floristic surveys; mangrove restoration
