The Joint Projector Theorem : Emergent Time from the E₈ Decoherence-Temporal Projector
Abstract
## 1. Abstract We define the **Joint Decoherence-Temporal Projector** $\Pi_{joint}$ on the $E_8$ root system and prove two results: 1. $\Pi_{joint}$ has eigenvalue 1 on the 29-dimensional physical subspace $\text{Im}(P_{phys})$ and acts as a strict contraction on its 211-dimensional complement. 2. The continuous-time heat kernel $K(t) = e^{-tH_{29}}$ of Paper #13 is exactly recovered as the projected semigroup limit of a discrete stroboscopic evolution governed by $\Pi_{joint}$. These results establish that continuous time is not a fundamental input to NCC but emerges from the iteration of a discrete projective update rule. The decoherence threshold $\Phi_{th} = 1/\beta_c^2 \approx 0.584$ (derived from the Rosetta critical velocity of Paper #7) serves as the physical cutoff determining which spectral modes survive the iteration. We additionally derive the fractal cascade energy scales $M_3$ and $M_5$ from the $n = 3$ and $n = 5$ prime thresholds of Paper #14 and state their implications for the neutrino mass hierarchy as a conjecture to be resolved in Paper #17. --- ## 2. Introduction The Non-Continuum Calculus (NCC) developed in Papers #1–#15 builds all of physics from the 29-dimensional projected Hamiltonian $H_{29}$, extracted from the $E_8$ root system via the Rosetta projection at $\theta_c = 75°$ (Paper #7). The heat kernel $K(t) = e^{-tH_{29}}$ provides the propagator governing spectral evolution (Paper #13) and underpins the complete Standard Model action (Paper #17). However, the heat kernel depends on a continuous parameter $t$. If the $E_8$ substrate is discrete and finite — 240 roots, 29 physical channels, four eigenvalues — then $t$ cannot be fundamental. This paper resolves this tension by proving that continuous time emerges from the iteration of a discrete quantum map. The key insight is that two independent physical requirements — temporal coherence and decoherence threshold — can be combined into a single joint projector $\Pi_{joint}$ whose repeated application on the full $E_8$ space annihilates all non-physical modes and preserves the 29-channel subspace exactly. On this surviving subspace, iterated application of $\Pi_{joint}$ composed with the Euclidean evolution operator yields the heat kernel via the semigroup property of matrix exponentials.
