Non-Continuum Calculus Tutorial 1: Resolving the Casimir Effect
Abstract
In standard Quantum Field Theory (QFT), the calculation of the zero-point vacuum energy between two uncharged conducting plates yields an absolute infinity, requiring ad-hoc mathematical machinery (Zeta Function Regularization) to extract the physical Casimir force. We demonstrate that in the Non-Continuum Calculus (NCC) framework, the vacuum energy is inherently finite and parameter-free. By representing the vacuum state strictly as the trace of the finite 29 x 29 projected E8 Hamiltonian () heat kernel, the ultraviolet divergence is structurally eliminated. In this framework, the Casimir energy and force are defined by finite traces from the start, demonstrating that the ultraviolet divergences necessitating renormalization in continuum QFT are features of the continuum idealization, not the finite NCC substrate.
