Abstract

As brain-computer interfaces mature through efforts at Neuralink, Merge Labs, and leading research institutions in the United States and China, a critical architectural gap persists: the output layer. These platforms excel at acquiring cortical signals but lack a high-bandwidth, interference-free mechanism to translate those signals into precise limb and device control. This paper proposes that fiber optics fills that gap, completing the cortical-prosthetic loop. This work is offered as a technical contribution to the public interest, with relevance to veterans served through the Department of Veterans Affairs, who bear disproportionate rates of limb loss and stand to benefit most immediately from next-generation prosthetic architectures. I had conceived of this idea long ago but was able to prepare it professionally with the assistance of AI (Chat GPT, Gemini)Openly donated research, no patents have been filed
