Abstract

This Open Educational Resource (OER) aims to examine the role of media literacy in overcoming gender bias. It provides a definition of media literacy as well as a description of the basic manifestations of gender bias in contemporary media. Furthermore, it mentions the main theories of media influence on the perception of reality as a mechanism for perpetuating gender inequalities in society. Finally, it offers an assessment of the elements through which media literacy can contribute to overcoming gender bias, as well as what cannot be achieved through media literacy alone.
