Amathus, Cyprus
Abstract
Amathus (Cyprus) is a major archaeological site located along the southern coast of the island, preserving extensive remains of the Hellenistic and Roman city. The site includes the Agora with its colonnaded porticoes, the Nymphaeum, Roman baths, water management infrastructure, and the ancient harbour, now partially submerged due to shoreline changes. These remains illustrate the city’s strategic maritime role and its long continuity of occupation from the Hellenistic through the Byzantine period, highlighting its significance within the eastern Mediterranean world.
