Numbers as Orders of Agreement: The ISL Framework for Scale, Invariants, and QED
Abstract
This package presents the ISL (Inverse Scaling Law) Research Series, a unified conceptual and formal framework exploring how numerical invariants in physics emerge as stable orders of agreement across scale. The central propositions of the package are: Numbers are orders of agreement: numerical values are not defined by perception, interpretation, or representation, but by their invariance under disagreement across observers, models, and scales. ISL acts as a refusal engine: as scale resolution increases, unstable, high-variance structures are suppressed, leaving behind robust numerical residues that function as physical invariants. The package integrates: A foundational essay on the nature of numbers as invariant agreements A scale-based interpretation of mathematical number systems A formal treatment of QED scale dependence, renormalization, and running coupling An interpretive framework connecting renormalization to geometric constraint filtering Explicit discussion of limits, assumptions, and falsifiability All mathematical formulations related to QED follow standard, orthodox quantum field theory. Interpretive extensions (ISL, constraint geometry, refusal dynamics) are presented explicitly as framework-level proposals, not replacements for established physics.
