Role of Cloud Computing in Smart City Development
Abstract
Role of Cloud Computing in Smart City Development by Patel Nishi H. (Parul University) presents an overview of how cloud computing serves as a foundational technology for the development of smart cities. The paper explains that smart cities use modern technologies such as IoT devices, smart energy systems, smart roads, and smart waste management to improve urban living, optimize resources, and enhance sustainability. It highlights how cloud computing provides on-demand services, centralized data storage, scalability, and cost efficiency, enabling cities to collect, store, process, and analyze large volumes of data from sensors, citizens, and government authorities. The study discusses different architectural layers including cloud, fog, and edge computing, and emphasizes the importance of data security, privacy, and real-time analytics in managing urban infrastructure. By integrating various domains such as transportation, healthcare, energy, education, and public safety into a unified cloud platform, the paper concludes that cloud computing plays a critical role in creating secure, efficient, scalable, and citizen-centric smart cities capable of supporting sustainable urban growth.
