Abstract

The Dhag’an Valley Mangrove Forest, Bosaso, Somalia datasets provide primary ecological and socio-environmental data collected between 2017 and 2024 to assess mangrove resilience in a fragile coastal city context. Data were gathered using transect–quadrat sampling, structured field checklists, and community questionnaires. The collection includes quadrat tree counts and population estimates, vegetation health observations, soil and water condition records, wildlife presence, and evidence of human activity such as grazing, firewood collection, and pollution. In addition, anonymized community interview transcripts capture local perspectives on mangrove use, decline, and restoration opportunities. Together, these datasets offer a comprehensive baseline for understanding ecological gradients, human pressures, and restoration pathways in Bosaso’s mangrove ecosystems. They are intended to support future research, conservation planning, and climate resilience initiatives in Somalia’s coastal regions.
