THE ROLE OF THE SERVICE SECTOR IN PROMOTING REGIONAL ECONOMIC GROWTH: EVIDENCE FROM JIZZAKH REGION.
Abstract
This study examines the role of the service sector in promoting regional economic growth in the Jizzakh Region of Uzbekistan using official and estimated statistical data for the period 2015–2025. The research analyzes service sector output, employment, investment, and urbanization to quantify their impact on regional GDP. An Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) time-series regression model is applied to measure the elasticity of GDP with respect to service-related variables. The empirical results indicate that a 1% increase in service sector output contributes approximately 0.45% to regional GDP growth. Employment and investment in services also positively affect economic growth, though with smaller elasticities. The findings highlight the importance of balanced service sector development, particularly in reducing urban–rural disparities, where around 60% of the population resides in rural areas. The study provides policy recommendations for sustainable and inclusive regional development
