A Modified Non-Isolated Buck Converter using Z Source Topology
Abstract
The Z-Source Buck topology is used in this study to investigate the methods used to configure a DC-DC converter. In the modern power industry, efficient energy conversion is critical due to the challenges of ineffective power transformation. Compared to conventional Z-Source and Buck converters, the proposed design achieves higher efficiency and output current while utilizing fewer components. With the rapid rise of solar energy as a renewable source, this converter is particularly suited for applications like fast battery charging in electric vehicles. The proposed system delivers a 268W capacity with minimal ripple and stable output. By arranging components in series, switching losses are distributed across multiple devices, reducing thermal stress and improving thermal management. The converter achieves an efficiency of 89.17% with an output current of 5.37A. Furthermore, adjusting component values allows the output voltage to be adjusted to meet diverse application requirements.
