What is the gold standard evidence for using the eGFR equation based on creatinine and cystatin C compared to creatinine alone, and when is it better to use creatinine alone?
Abstract
Combining creatinine and cystatin C for eGFR estimation offers more precise estimates, especially in cases where non-GFR factors influence serum creatinine. Creatinine alone is appropriately used in routine screenings without suspected kidney dysfunction.
