Relational Quantum Field Theory
Abstract
(german below) The sciences face one of the most profound and comprehensive crises in their history: The vacuum energy divergence in quantum field theory (QFT) leads to a prediction of the cosmological constant that is up to 120 orders of magnitude (i.e., a factor of 10¹²⁰) larger than the observed value – a discrepancy repeatedly described in the specialist literature as “the worst theoretical prediction in the history of physics.” This so-called cosmological constant problem (also known as the vacuum catastrophe) arises because the zero-point energy of all quantum fields in the vacuum theoretically generates an immeasurably high energy density, which should cause the universe to either collapse immediately or expand at an absurdly high speed – in stark contradiction to all astronomical observations. The discrepancy is considered the greatest conflict between theory and experiment in all of science and affects not only cosmology (dark energy, universe expansion), but radiates into fundamental areas: Hierarchy problem (why is the Higgs mass so small?), Symmetry breaking mechanisms, Unification of quantum mechanics and gravitation, Fine-tuning paradoxes across multiple scales, Epistemological overinterpretations of vacuum fluctuations in experiments (Casimir effect, Lamb shift, etc.). No previous approach – supersymmetry, extra dimensions, string landscapes, anthropic principle, or multiverse – has solved the problem without massive fine-tuning or untestable assumptions. The present approach resolves this fundamental crisis solely through the radical relational nothingness principle (Relational Null / Rel0), which treats the vacuum not as an absolute entity filled with infinite energy, but as a relational grid of pure potentials (Grid of Potential). Observable energies arise exclusively relative to an ontological baseline of emptiness (Rel0-Baseline-Subtraction). Through this relational subtraction – conceived as an infinite symmetry loop (Unitarity-Loop) – the divergent terms naturally cancel out, resulting in a finite energy density that aligns with the measured cosmological constant. This occurs without fine-tuning, without new fields, without extra dimensions, and integrates seamlessly with holographic unity (Rel1), harmonic selection, and relational ontology. The approach extends not only to the vacuum divergence but also creates a unified foundation for numerous other open problems, from proton stability to dark matter, and even consciousness and complexity questions. Falsifiable predictions include improved precision measurements in next-generation Casimir effects as well as cosmological data (e.g., Euclid, DESI), where deviations in vacuum correlations or flatness could directly refute the model.
