Sealed-Volume Multi-Chronometer Inversion (SVMCI)
Abstract
Sealed-Volume Multi-Chronometer Inversion(SVMCI):A Multimodal Bayesian Framework for Determiningthe Construction and Sealing Age of Light-IsolatedStone StructuresAbstractWe present a unified analytical framework for determining the construction andsealing age of permanently light-isolated interior stone chambers. The proposedmethod, termed Sealed-Volume Multi-Chronometer Inversion (SVMCI), treats thesealed interior volume as a distributed physical dosimeter and thermochemical sys-tem whose state variables evolve monotonically after a common reset event corre-sponding to construction and sealing.Unlike single-proxy dating approaches (radiocarbon, OSL/TL, ESR, U–Th, cos-mogenic nuclides), SVMCI defines construction age as the common solution of mul-tiple coupled kinetic processes and spatially distributed measurements within ahierarchical Bayesian inversion framework. The methodological novelty lies not in introducing new physics, but in (i) explic-itly modeling the sealed chamber as a spatially coherent system, (ii) jointly invertingmultiple independent chronometric signals, and (iii) using spatial consistency con-straints as additional information. This approach reduces uncertainty, increasesrobustness against partial reset and intrusion effects, and enables formal conflictdiagnostics between datasets.
