Abstract

Periodontal diseases remain among the most prevalent chronic inflammatory conditions worldwide and represent a significant cause of tooth loss and reduced quality of life. Their multifactorial etiology, involving complex interactions between microbial biofilm, host immune response, genetic predisposition, and behavioral and systemic risk factors, necessitates a comprehensive preventive approach. This study aims to evaluate the role of structured risk assessment, early intervention, and contemporary preventive strategies in reducing the incidence and progression of periodontal pathology. A combined analytical and clinical framework was applied to examine current preventive models and their practical effectiveness. The investigation focused on identifying key modifiable and non-modifiable risk determinants, assessing the clinical value of early diagnostic indicators, and analyzing the outcomes of individualized preventive programs. Emphasis was placed on integrating professional mechanical plaque control, patient-centered oral hygiene education, behavioral modification, and management of systemic conditions into a coordinated prevention protocol. The findings demonstrate that systematic risk stratification enhances early detection of inflammatory changes in periodontal tissues and supports timely implementation of targeted interventions. Personalized preventive strategies were associated with significant reductions in plaque accumulation, gingival bleeding, and periodontal pocket depth, as well as improved patient adherence to oral hygiene practices. The results also highlight the importance of continuous maintenance therapy and long-term monitoring to ensure periodontal stability. The study confirms that prevention-oriented periodontal care, grounded in evidence-based protocols and individualized risk evaluation, improves clinical outcomes and reduces the burden of advanced disease. Implementation of modern preventive strategies at both primary and specialized levels of dental practice contributes to sustainable periodontal health and supports overall systemic well-being.
