Abstract

The video demonstrates key functionalities of the OceanView application within Blue Insight, developed for the ARCFISH project. It begins with the 3D map tool, which uses a polar stereographic projection to avoid distortions typical of conventional map views. This tool allows users to overlay relevant datasets—including ice extent, GEBCO data, and user‑uploaded layers—and to trigger workflow tasks directly from the interface. The video then showcases the standard geographic map functionality using regional databases generated for ARCFISH. A model from Aarhus University for Disko Bay is loaded, illustrating how complex environmental models (e.g., micro‑zooplankton production) can be visualized over time with custom colour palettes and temporal replay features. This enables comparison of model outputs with real capture data and other datasets. The Icelandic use case integrates fishing‑fleet data, displayed both in map and tabular form. Users can adjust visual parameters, generate heat maps, and replay fishing activity over time. Additional layers—such as GEBCO bathymetry, oceanographic stations, wave data, and seismic activity—are combined to explore environmental drivers of fishing patterns. Recent improvements include adding graticules, grids, and labels, enhancing scientific usability and contextual understanding. The video concludes by highlighting how OceanView supports combining scientific and commercial datasets for improved clarity and decision‑support in Arctic fisheries.
