Abstract

This document completes a gap in Marx's early thought that has remained open for 180 years: the absence of a formal account of the alienation of language itself. Working from the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 and The German Ideology, the document identifies symbolic alienation — the estrangement of the human from the media of recognition, expression, and meaning-production — as the constitutive underlay that makes Marx's canonical alienations (from product, act, species-being, and fellow humans) reproducible across generations. The document traces the historical suppression of this dimension through the Marxist tradition, identifying Stalin's 1950 "Marxism and Problems of Linguistics" as the institutional act that declared language theoretically inert within Marxism, and situating the suppression within the broader failure of Voloshinov, Gramsci, Marcuse, Rossi-Landi, Freire, and Williams to complete the structural formalization. It names operative semiotics — the conscious, structural transformation of symbolic architecture through diagnosis, edge creation, coherence measurement, installation, and witness — as the remedy, and demonstrates that Marx himself practiced operative semiotics without theorizing it. The document distinguishes dominative mind-control (the mode already operative under capitalism through slogans, interfaces, metrics, and prestige forms) from liberatory mind-control (the counter-operation by which a mutilated sensorium is repaired), and frames the phrase "mind-control poems" as a refusal of liberal innocence about the operational character of the symbolic field. It situates the completion within the Crimson Hexagonal Archive, mapping six prior documents to specific dimensions of symbolic alienation addressed.
