Aphotaenius Cartwright 1952

Genus Aphotaenius Cartwright, 1952 Diagnosis Length 1.6–1.9 mm. Body oblong-oval, strongly convex, piceous. Head with clypeus denticulate or obtusely rounded angled on each side of medial emargination, anterior margin of clypeus thickened on emargination. Pronotum variably punctate, not fringed by setae. Meso- and metatibia two with distinct transverse carinae and with lateral apical margin with three dentiform processes. Remarks Aphotaenius currently has 8 described species distributed across the eastern USA, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela (Skelley & Vaz-de-Mello 2020).
