Abstract

This perspective paper introduces the Manufactured Anxiety Model (MAM), proposing that the pervasive anxiety in modern industrialized societies is not a natural human condition but a neurologically installed state. We argue that economic and social systems—capitalism, marketing, and organized religion—deliberately exploit the evolutionary design of the amygdala to bypass rational prefrontal evaluation. The paper explores: Neural Exploitation: How fear-based messaging (concerning health, wealth, and status) installs chronic cortisol-mediated neural pathways. The Compliance Loop: How manufactured anxiety drives consumption and social compliance, maintaining the very systems that generate the fear. Neuroplasticity as Liberation: Building on the principle of Hebbian plasticity ("cells that fire together, wire together"), we propose that conscious, intentional repetition of empowering beliefs can physically dismantle anxious neural circuits and restore cognitive autonomy. This work serves as a neurological manual for reclaiming the human mind from systemic exploitation.
