Abstract

Trust and Credibility in Selling with Focus on Ethical PracticesTrust and credibility are the foundation of successful selling. In today’s competitive marketplace, customers do not simply buy products; they buy confidence in the seller and the organization. Trust is built when salespeople consistently provide honest information, fulfill promises, and prioritize customer needs rather than focusing only on making a sale. Credibility, on the other hand, refers to the belief that the salesperson has the knowledge, integrity, and professionalism required to offer genuine solutions.Ethical practices play a crucial role in developing this trust. Ethical selling involves transparency about product features, pricing, limitations, and benefits without exaggeration or misleading claims. When salespeople avoid manipulation, hidden charges, or false commitments, customers feel respected and valued. This leads to long-term relationships, repeat business, and positive word-of-mouth, which are more beneficial than short-term gains achieved through unethical behavior. Moreover, ethical conduct enhances the reputation of both the salesperson and the company. Organizations known for fairness and honesty gain customer loyalty and competitive advantage. In contrast, unethical practices may bring immediate profits but damage brand image and result in customer dissatisfaction and loss of trust. Therefore, trust and credibility, supported by strong ethical standards, are essential for sustainable sales success and long-term customer relationships.
