Pair Production As Photon-Gluon Interactions
Abstract
Existing data demonstrates a better fit using the total nucleon count squared vs the number of protons squared. This paper demonstrates a chi squared analysis showing that pair production cross sections are better fit by the AxA model. Pair production may fundamentally be a photon-gluon interaction, suggesting that cross sections should scale with the number of nucleons, not the number of protons. A simple experiment using isotopes of Sn would allow for cross sectional data to be compared decisively. Sn isotopes Sn-112 vs Sn-124 would give an expected 22% difference in measured cross sections while maintaining Z=50. Available cross section data is generated from existing, potentially incorrect models, and cannot be used to come to a conclusion on this issue.
