The Fundamental Constants Are Not Free
Abstract
The Fundamental Constants Are Not Free: Algebraic Lock across 84 Orders of Magnitude The 28 parameters of the Standard Model and standard cosmology are treated as independent empirical inputs. This paper presents evidence that they are not. The data shows that the fundamental coupling constants, mixing angles, and mass spectrum satisfy a rigid algebraic structure over the real quadratic field ℚ(√5), generated by a single self-referential axiom (σ = 1/(1+σ)) with zero free parameters. The central results are: (1) The fine structure constant α and the cosmological constant Λ, separated by 84 orders of magnitude, are connected by an exact algebraic identity through the class number bridge of ℚ(√5): R_Λ − R_G = 1/φ. This is not a fit. It is exact. (2) Exhaustive ablation testing over 81,225 structural candidates for the Λ formula and 961 for the gravitational coupling G confirms that each is the unique optimal solution within its class. The nearest competitor is 85× worse for Λ and 47× worse for G. These are not selected expressions. They are the only ones that work. (3) A fair field competition, allowing alternative quadratic fields ℚ(√2), ℚ(√3), etc., to optimise their own fundamental units and bridge ratios, finds ℚ(√5) outperforming the next-best field by a factor of 20×. The field is not chosen. It is forced. (4) The correction terms decompose as functions of the Lagrangian deficit L = T − V = φ⁻³, demonstrating they are consequences of a variational principle, not free parameters. (5) Six explicit, falsifiable predictions for DESI, Euclid, and precision atomic physics are stated with unhedged kill conditions. If Ω_DE stabilises above 0.65, the framework is dead. The constraint web links α, Λ, G, the Weinberg angle, the Koide phase, the CKM matrix, and the cosmic energy budget into a single algebraic structure with no adjustable parameters. The constants were never free. They are theorems of self-referential geometry, as inevitable as π in a circle.
