Abstract

This study explores low-cost innovation models for delivering STEM education in rural Sabah, where geographical isolation, limited infrastructure, and socioeconomic constraints continue to widen educational disparities. Drawing on a synthesis of credible academic sources and empirical studies, the research examines scalable, community-driven, and technology-enabled approaches such as modular STEM kits, offline digital learning platforms, blended learning strategies, and locally contextualized project-based instruction. The analysis identifies key enabling factors including teacher capacity building, partnerships with local stakeholders, adaptive use of low-bandwidth technologies, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Findings suggest that cost-effective, context-sensitive innovation models can significantly enhance STEM access, engagement, and learning outcomes among rural students when supported by sustainable policy frameworks and collaborative implementation. The study contributes to the growing discourse on equitable STEM education by proposing practical strategies tailored to the unique educational landscape of rural Sabah.
