Abstract
v1.0.0 - Initial Release: RP-UEIS Framework We are excited to announce the first official release of the Resonant Piezoelectric Spectroscopy coupled with Ultrasound Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (RP-UEIS) computational framework. This release provides the complete, low-cost, impedance-driven methodology to extract the complex electromechanical constants of piezoelectric actuators and the viscoelastic moduli of polymer layers using Finite Element (FE) modeling and inverse optimization. 🚀 Key Features PZT Sensitivity Analysis (Algorithm 1): Includes a systematic routine to evaluate how variations in material parameters propagate to the model outputs, reducing the optimization space to only the most influential constants. PZT Model Calibration (Algorithm 2): Implements an inverse fitting procedure to reconstruct the full frequency response of the standalone PZT-4 transducer. It accurately identifies both storage and loss parameters. Polymer Viscoelastic Characterization (Algorithm 3): A robust, constrained optimization algorithm to extract the frequency-dependent complex viscoelastic moduli of coupled samples. It enforces strict physical and thermodynamic constraints to ensure realistic mechanical behavior (e.g., shear attenuation exceeding longitudinal attenuation). Supported Materials: Ready-to-use validation for 3D-printed thermoplastics (PLA, ABS, PET-G) and homogeneous cast polymers (PMMA, Epoxy). Automated Data Routing: Scripts are configured with dynamic relative paths to safely export results (.csv, .mat) to the results/ and data/ directories without cluttering the source code. ⚙️ Software Requirements MATLAB: Tested and verified on R2024a. Requires the Optimization Toolbox (for fminsearch and fmincon constrained routines). COMSOL Multiphysics: Version 6.1a (or higher). Integration: Requires COMSOL LiveLink™ for MATLAB® to couple the numerical FEM models with the optimization scripts. 📂 What's Included in this Source Code Archive? Scripts/: Core MATLAB algorithms (1, 2, and 3) and objective cost functions. models/: Base axisymmetric COMSOL .mph models for the bare PZT and the multilayer assembly. data/: Sample experimental impedance spectra for benchmarking. Full documentation and usage instructions can be found in the README.md.
