Abstract

This study evaluates the practicum model at Universiti Malaysia Sabah with a focus on bridging the gap between pedagogical theory and classroom practice. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research examines how pre-service teachers translate university-based knowledge into authentic teaching experiences during school placements. Quantitative survey data and qualitative reflections were analyzed to assess preparedness, professional growth, mentorship quality, and contextual challenges. Findings indicate that structured supervision, reflective practice, and collaborative mentoring significantly enhance the integration of theoretical constructs with real-world instructional strategies. However, contextual constraints such as limited resources and varying mentor expectations influence the consistency of practicum outcomes. The study highlights the importance of a coherent, feedback-driven practicum framework to strengthen professional competencies and support sustainable teacher development within diverse educational settings.
