ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION AND PREGNANCY
Abstract
High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a condition that affects 10% of pregnant women. It adversely affects fetal development by interfering with oxygen and nutrients, and can also cause serious complications for the expectant mother. If blood pressure during pregnancy reaches 140/90 mmHg or higher, it is considered hypertension. In this case, a doctor typically prescribes medication. If systolic blood pressure is above 160 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure is above 100 mmHg, emergency hospitalization is recommended, as this condition can lead to seizures or stroke..
