Khusainova A.A. Attribute "living" as polyfunctional collocate in I.A. Ilyin's discourse
Abstract
The paper deals with functional and semantic specifics of collocations with the attribute living in the discourse of the Russian philosopher I. A. Ilyin. It is established that the nomination living loses its primary biological meaning, acquiring ontological and axiological connotations (the authenticity and dynamism of being, spirituality, and connection with the Divine). Compound nouns become conceptual constructs, expressing the opposition between genuine and imaginary (alive as a marker of spiritual authenticity). The word dictionary meaning is transferred, with hypersemantization in discourse (both in micro- and macro-context) being the result of this process. We believe that living or alive is a means of expressing the philosopher's global ideas. The collocate living performs a terminological function through the extension of the key categories semantics. Its contextual-semantic function is realized as a result of the meaning extension in the integration with the discourse dominants. The expressive-metaphorical function manifests itself in the figurative specialization of abstract concepts. The methods of semantic, contextual, discourse analysis have been applied. The comparison with the lexicographic data is made as well.
