Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of the problem of cognitive features of women’s emotional dependence. The study was conducted at the Pedagogical Institute of the National Research University "BelSU", with 480 female students being the sample of the study. The sample was formed randomly and is represented by students majoring various pedagogical areas, which is due to the increased relevance of studying emotional dependence in professional groups with a high level of emotional empathy and interpersonal involvement. In the course of the study a number of relevant methods have been used among them are: Interpersonal Dependence Test Questionnaire (by R. Girshfield as adapted by O.P. Makushina), Cognitive Errors Questionnaire (A. Freeman, R. Dewolf adapted by A.E. Bobrov, E.V. Fayzrakhmanov), Basic Beliefs Scale (R. Yanov-Bulman adapted by O.A. Kravtsova, M.A. Padun and A.V. Kotelnikova), Irrational Attitudes Diagnostics Method (A. Ellis) and mathematical statistics methods. It has been found out that women prone to emotional dependence are characterized by a greater severity of cognitive errors, basic beliefs, irrational attitudes than women who are not prone to it. Emotional dependence is statistically associated with cognitive determinants in such a way that it increases systematic errors in thinking, the world is experienced as both more random and requiring a meaningful explanation, and intrinsic self-esteem is reduced. Keywords: emotional dependence, interpersonal dependence, addictions, women, cognitive determinants, cognitive errors, basic beliefs, irrational attitudes.
