Abstract

Oral cancer remains a major global health concern, particularly in regions with high prevalence of tobacco use, alcohol consumption, betel quid chewing, and emerging lifestyle-related risk factors. Despite significant advances in diagnostic techniques and therapeutic strategies, oral malignancies continue to pose challenges due to late presentation, complex biological behavior, and variable clinical outcomes. A thorough understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying oral cancer is therefore essential for effective diagnosis, prognostication, and management. This book, Oral Cancer Pathology: Cellular Insights and Clinical Correlates, is designed to provide a comprehensive and integrated overview of the pathological basis of oral cancer, bridging fundamental cellular alterations with their clinical manifestations. The text emphasizes the progression from normal oral epithelium to potentially malignant disorders and invasive carcinoma, highlighting key processes such as dysplasia, genetic and epigenetic changes, hypoxia, angiogenesis, invasion, metastasis, and treatment resistance. The content has been carefully structured to serve undergraduate and postgraduate students of dentistry and medicine, oral pathologists, clinicians, researchers, and allied health professionals. Complex concepts are presented in a clear and systematic manner, supported by current scientific evidence and clinically relevant interpretations. Special attention is given to recent advances in molecular pathology, biomarkers, and targeted therapies, reflecting the evolving landscape of oral oncology. It is hoped that this book will not only function as a reliable academic resource but also stimulate critical thinking and research interest in oral cancer pathology. By integrating cellular insights with clinical correlates, this work aspires to contribute meaningfully to education, early detection, and improved patient outcomes in the field of oral cancer. — Authors Dr. Sumit Bhatt Prof. Dr. Ranjit Kumar Mishra Dr. Prasenjit Mishra Prof. Dr Ansuman Dash Dr. Sonam Satpathy Dr. Madhushree Mishra
