Independent Physical Signatures of Phase Structure in Spacetime
Abstract
Several independent areas of established physics exhibit the following structural features characteristic of macroscopic phases: universality of long-wavelength dynamics, insensitivity to microscopic realization, relational organization of observables, and stability of coarse-grained classical variables. These properties appear in gravitation without presupposing any specific quantum-gravity model. This article examines these features collectively and argues that they are naturally understood if spacetime geometry functions as an emergent order parameter describing a stable collective regime of underlying degrees of freedom. The goal is not to derive spacetime from a particular microscopic theory but to identify structural signatures already present in known physics that are diagnostic of phase-type behavior. Taken together, these considerations motivate interpreting spacetime as a macroscopic organization rather than a fundamental field.
