SU(3) as Symmetric Limit: Gauge-Geometry Correspondence and the Strong CP Problem from the Bootstrap Framework Copy
Abstract
The Standard Model postulates SU(3) as the gauge group of the strong interaction. The choice is fitted to observation: we see three colours, therefore SU(3). No derivation exists for why the gauge group must be SU(3) rather than any other compact Lie group. We show that the Bootstrap Universe framework resolves this question through a geometric chain unique to three dimensions. D = 3 is the only spatial dimensionality admitting the Poincaré homology sphere S³/2I. The binary icosahedral group determines the mod 24 Eisenstein lattice (via vertex degree d = 5, period d² − 1 = 24), whose 8 survivors decompose as 6 colour positions (three twin prime pairs) plus 2 Euler closure modes. The generator count of SU(D) is D² − 1. Setting this equal to the mode count 2(D + 1) yields (D − 3)(D + 1) = 0; the unique positive solution is D = 3. The equation summarises what the geometry forces: the icosahedral chain exists only at D = 3, and produces exactly D² − 1 = 8 modes. The structural correspondence extends beyond counting. The six colour positions map to the six root vectors of SU(3) (three raising/lowering pairs). The two Euler closure modes map to the two Cartan generators. The Euler characteristic χ = 2 equals the rank of SU(3). This full structural isomorphism holds only for D = 3. The strong CP problem — why the QCD vacuum angle θ is experimentally consistent with zero — is dissolved. On S³/2I, the orientation lives in H³(S³/2I) ≅ ℤ: integer-valued, with no continuous parameter. The θ-term can be written in the Lagrangian but is physically inert, as the path integral does not sum over continuously connected topological sectors. CP is violated in the weak sector (the Grandi commitment chose +1, a discrete act) and not in the strong sector (no continuous orientation freedom exists). No axion is required. A systematic parameter comparison shows that every QCD quantity fitted by the Standard Model in the light hadron sector has a geometric origin in the Bootstrap framework. SU(3) is not replaced — it is recovered as the high-energy symmetric limit of the full geometric structure.Copy
